Narrowing your topic and asking a good question

Here is some unsolicited advice on developing your research paper topic and turning it into a question: re-read pages 177-187 in Appendix One of Badke. Do you see how the Bad and Ugly examples, and their fixes, turn a broad or fuzzy topic into a clear and narrow question?

For more help, review this guide (.pdf) on Formulating your Research Question from Vanderbilt University’s writing center, and take the time to run your research question through the checklist at the bottom of the page.

Good luck, everyone!
